Next Generation Polymers for Wound Care

FW's patented Pro-ionic polymers have been designed to act as synthetic mimics of the Highly Sulphated Glycosaminoglycans (HSGs) prevalent in the extracellular matrix and on the outer surface of cell membranes.

HSGs act as binding sites for important biochemical reactions involved in the normal wound healing process, such as the modulation of protease activity and the control of inflammation. However in chronic wounds these HSGs are dysfunctional.

Pro-ionic polymers act as surrogate HSGs, and in this way facilitate normal wound healing processes.

These polymers have been incorporated into a range of different dressing designs, with consistent clinical feedback of both wound stimulation and the reduction of pain in painful wounds.
