Redefining Hydrocolloid Performance

Saline aplliedFluid Absorbed within 10 minutes

Hydrocolloids were once the centrepiece of any range of advanced wound dressings. However the category has diminished due to the lack of any significant innovation in the past 20 years. FW's new Pro-ionic Hydrocolloid dressing is set to revolutionise the category, in one step overcoming the key issues associated with traditional hydrocolloid dressings.

Total Fluid Handling. Pro-ionic hydrocolloid dressings eclipse the fluid handling performance of typical hydrocolloids. Total Fluid Handling (measured by Paddington Cup, 24h, 40C, 55%RH, g/sqm, 4 reps) with Pro-ionic Hydrocolloid the fluid handling is c. 14000. This leads to more effective management of exudate, extended wear time and improved cost efficiencies. Despite this improved absorbency, Pro-ionic Hydrocolloid is still able to hydrate dry tissue and encourage debridement in a controlled manner. On application to dry skin, moisture levels increase by approximately 75% after 8 hours*.

Absorption within Wound Margins. Because Pro-ionic Hydrocolloid absorbs exudate at a faster rate than traditional hydrocolloids, the fluid is more effectively maintained within the wound margins, reducing the risk of maceration and leakage.

Transparency. Unlike traditional hydrocolloids, Pro-ionic Hydrocolloid is almost fully transparent, and remains clear on exposure to exudate. This reduces the cost and wound disturbance associated with unnecessary dressing changes.

Low Trauma Removal.  The CMC in Pro-ionic Hydrocolloid is held in a gel-like continuous phase, making it less traumatic on removal than a traditional hydrocolloid.

Less Odour. Pro-ionic Hydrocolloid has been formulated specifically to exclude components which can cause excessive odour. The reduced odour addresses an important quality of life issue associated with the burden of a chronic wound.
