Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) is an important and growing technique for the treatment of large or complex wounds. However, the construction of NPWT dressings, performed by clinicians in-situ, is complex and time-consuming. There is often a failure to create a long-lasting seal around the wound margins.

Due to their ease of application and removal, FW adhesive gels are increasingly being used instead of hydrocolloid paste, the latter having traditionally been used as the means of creating a seal.
